Dear Grovites

Our Pillars of Excellence,
Inclusion and Affordability: A Grove Conversation

On Saturday 19 August 2017, The Grove Primary School hosted its first Grove Conversation. Over 120 parents and teachers attended the successful event. The theme of this year’s Conversation was “Our Pillars of Excellence, Inclusion and Affordability”.  The pillars of Excellence, Inclusion and Affordability provide the foundations for learning, teaching, how the school is run and for The Grove remaining a truly wonderful school.

The Grove Conversation was a day of talking, learning and shaping the future of the school together. It was an exciting and important event that brought together parents, teachers, and the SGB to talk about what each of the pillars means and how they are interconnected at an ex-model C school, in the context of a democratic South Africa and the need for quality public schooling.

The process allowed everyone to share their stories, experiences and ideas from a variety of perspectives. Parents and staff together came up with possibilities and solutions to issues of affordability, access, diversity and sustaining excellent learning results.

The conversation was an opportunity for parents to interact amongst one another and with teachers, to share ideas for building a more inclusive, affordable and excellent Grove community. Participants echoed the sentiment that we need to accept and respect our differences and emphasise our similar goals in order to move forward together.  The SGB will now develop a clear follow-up plan of action with time-frames, roles and responsibilities, for the future of The Grove.

Kind regards

Solange Rosa
