TUCKSHOP COMMITTEE

I think that the tuckshop needs the pillars that they use for Cake sales to keep the lines straight. I also think we need to serve more slush puppies because it will help us by mmaking more customers come. I enjoy working at the tuckshop but some days when  I buy from the tuckshop I see that some people are doing duty on the wrong day and doing other people's jobs. I like working on Tuesdays because at second break I usually have nothing to do so it keeps me occupied. I actuall also really enjoy serving slush puppies. I like inter-acting with  other people and helping to collect things and pack away in the storeroom.

There's nothing I don't like about  the tuckshop just the fact that some people are on duty when they are not supposed to be and  the Moms get confused.

At the tuckshop I help with getting the baskets sorted out and  help the Moms in the kitchen.

I think we need poles for the lines because they tend to get chaotic.

COMPUTER COMMITTEE

I mostly enjoy doing my duty and it always keeps me busy. I try to come every duty day and I am  constantly walking around to help people. There is always a problem to solve with the printer or something and I always try to solve it alone. There is always a trouble maker or two and I quickly put his name on the board. I think everyone should do their duty as it is only one break a week and is easy and simple to do.

Being a mediator is not as simple as it sounds. Our jobs are not just to give all the answers on how to resolve conflict and solve problems. We enable students to tell their side of the story, to express how they feel, help them to find their own solutions and, hopefully, prevent the same problems occurring again. It is about empowering students and assisting them to have a solutions-focused approach.

As mediators, we don’t force students to work with us, they come to us voluntarily, or through the use of the bully boxes. The bully boxes are places where the children can write down the issues that they want to have addressed. We have to be fair, to respect the confidentiality of the mediation and to listen carefully to what is being communicated. If the issue is of a more serious nature, we refer to Sally Boulle, the teacher in charge of mediation. We encourage the students to have the freedom to speak honestly, because we want everyone to realise that there is a safe place where they will receive help. We want students to develop the skills to manage conflict constructively.

Being a mediator has taught us so much that we can use in our everyday lives and we now understand the importance of talking about the problems, rather than keeping quiet, so that we can explore ways to solve them.
