Language support is offered to learners who are experiencing difficulties with English as a first or second language. Small groups attend lessons with a qualified speech and language correctionist twice a week. Lessons are based on work being taught in the classrooms in order to introduce learners to all new language pertaining to the class themes. Speech correction for straightforward articulation errors such as lisps is also done. More complicated cases are referred to private speech therapists. Listening skills are taught to each Grade One class fortnightly.
A similar programme is offered in the Intermediate Phase where the focus is on vocabulary enrichment and comprehension skills.
Remedial support is available in small groups. These lessons deal with difficulties experienced in literacy and numeracy and take place twice a week.
Individual remedial support is offered by two private teachers using school facilities. These lessons take place twice a week during the school day.
An important aspect of our support is to provide opportunities for all children to experience success and, in this way, strengthen each individual's self-image.
