The Grove Primary School

Technology

Technology plays a vital role in the curriculum at the Grove from Grade 2 through till Grade 7. It encompasses a number of learning areas, namely, life skills, the sciences and mathematics.

The learners are encouraged to become critical thinkers to analyse, systematically solve problems through hands on experiences and experimentation.

The three areas of learning are:

Systems and control - i.e. hydraulics, electrical circuits, pulleys, levers etc

Basic engineering - i.e. triangulation, stability etc

Processes - textiles, plastics, paper, food tech, beading etc

The children are taught to work through the design process. To INVESTIGATE problems and do research, DESIGN by recording their ideas using graphical drawings and plans, To MAKE a pro-type, To EVALUATE their product and lastly, to COMMUNICATE, their experiences and findings.

There is no right or wrong in Technology, the possibilities are endless... this gives a large number of children the opportunities to excel.

TECHNOLOGY IS NOT ABOUT THE PRODUCT BUT ABOUT THE PROCESS.
