What is a THUNK?

A Thunk is a thought provoking question, and one that has no right or wrong answer.

30 January 2011: Is it always right to mind your own business?

• No, because it may be something sirous that has to be solved.
• of cours! because you might be listening to a privet convosashen and then you are going to tell and it might be a secret.
• Yes becasue you don't need to be worrying about other people and what they are saying worry about yourself.
• No, if somebody is planning something naughty you can intervine.
• No, if someone is doing something inapropriat you can tell on them.
• No, if someone is hurt you must know so you can help.
• Sometimes because if someone is planning to hurt someone you should tell someone!
• Of cous! Because you might be lising to rude stuff and wrong stuff.
• No, because if a person is suffering then they might not ever express their feelings! So it might be good to not mind your own business.
• It depends on the situashon.
• Most of the time but sometimes its for a good reason.
• No because it mite be about you.
• Well if someone wants to be alone then yes but if they want a friend then no.
• Friends might need help.

• If someone is saying something about you it is. Or sles not!

16 January 2012: Who do you sometimes compare yourself to? Why?

• No one. I'm perfect.
• Nobody. I have my own DNA and brbain and I won't share it.
• My brother. I'm more meticulous than him.
• Elah because she can talk to anyone.
• My Mom. I like it when she gets new manicures.
• My sister. She is so beautiful. She puts a lot of make up which I like.
• My brother Shivek. Becous his a goodey to shoes.

21 November 2011: Is it ever okay to let someone in the queue in front of you?

• No that's wrong to do. they must go to the back of the line.
• No because if it is a long queue it will get longer.
• No! Because there is a person behind you already and that person wants also to get their turn.
• No because it makes you wait longer.
• No because how would the other person behind you feel?
• No because it is rude, disrespectful and unfair to the person originally behind you.
• If I was the last one, yes. But if I'm not the last one then no!

14 November 2011: What do you think makes a person popular?

• sports prowess
• Personallity
• Everyone thinks it's just about the Bling-bling but it's not. You should really get to know the person first.
• You could be hideously ugly and have no money but if you had a nice personality you would be popular.
• There are some very rude people in my grade but they are so popular. Maybe its the way they talk or how rich they are.
• Just the way she is makes them special.

7 November 2011: What super powers would you choose to have?

• I would choose to be able to fly! It would be amazing to float above the earth looking down on everything. You could go anywhere you wanted to and see anything you wanted to see.
  
• I would choose to have control over all elements.
• Mind control so I could brain wash teachers into not giving us homework.
• I would choose to never get anything wrong cause that would be awesome.
• To make teachers disappear.T fly and be invisible and make plants grow and shape shifting.
• To fly beacause then I can go wherever I want.
• I woulod have invisibility powers so I can escape school.
• Shrink and fly because then I would not have to go to school.
• I would be able to read other people's minds so I can see what they are thinking.

31 October 2011:Would you rather be an adult or a child?

• Well if you are a child you have less freedom but less responsibilities but if you are an adult you have more freedom but more responsibilities.
• I would be an adult because you have more privilages and you can travel the world.
• Adult - learning can be frustrating and some people could use a lot more pocket money and parents worry too much. Can't they trust us?
• A whimsical and grounded child that can choose her own lunch.
• Child cause you're notstressed and aggitated.child because you can play a lot and practise PE, Litracy, Maths.
• First I want to try out being an adult then I'll choose.
• I think child can learn more Maths.
• I would be an adult because I can choose a job.

24 October 2011: Which day of the week is the heaviest?

• Wednesday because in my mind it is thebigest.
• Saturday coz I shop and the bags are always heavy.
• Sunday mornings because you have chors and you get ready for school.
• Sunday for the month my mom will not be at home so frostrating.
• The heaviest day of the week is Wednesday. I have the most depressing extra murals and when I get home my brother has hogged the TV.
• I didn't realise there was a scale that weighted days of the week?
• The heaviest days are Sunday and Monday obviously because you have to go to bed early and wake up early.
• Thursday and Tuesday because they take so long.
• Evry day but not Monday.
• Saturday - My social life is so hectic that on Saturdays everyone wants a piece of me.
• Monday because you always have new work on your desk.
• Wednesday because it has the longest name.
• Sunday because you have to do all your weekend homework.
• Tuesday because I have swimming and my brother and I do ballet and my brother has Judo.
• Monday because it carries the weight of the week ahead.
• Wednesday or Sunday becoas Sunday is the last day of the weekend.
• Monday because we have to go to school after a relaxing weekend, or Wednesday because I end at 5.00pm.
• Thursday reminds me of a rock that's heavy. Also some Nourse God Thor went around with a hammer breaking rocks and such.

17 October 2011: What colour would a zebra be if you removed it's stripes?

• Pink its natural skin.
• Nothing at all. It would look ugly.
• It be the colour of the zebra's eyes.
• It could be red if it was sunburnt, but I think white.
• It would be see-through because you are removing the black and white stripes.
• Purple!
• It depends on the colour of the zebra.
• It would be whiteb-cause it is white with black stripes and not black with white stripes.
• You can't say an answer because no=one knows what colour a zebra is under its stripes.
• Obviously white. Its stomach is white.
• It doesn't matter if your black or white.
• Its impossible to remove the stripes off a zebra.
• White cause a zebra has black stripes.
• It depends on the colour of the stripes that u've removed.

14 October 2011: If you joined the circus, what act would you be?

• I would be a clown beracuse I love making people laugh.
• Balins a ball on my head or on my finger.
• I would be the fire swaller.
• I would perform on the trapeez because I love to swing and I love people noticing me.
• A ring master.

• I would ride a unicycle on the tighrope. It looks fun.

19 September 2011: What would you do if: myou saw your best friend doing something you both know is not right?

• I would look for the reason.
• I'd tell them to stop over and over if they don't listen, it's their life they are throwing away and it was there desision to do it.
• I would say, Stop it! This is unexcepeble. Stop it!
• I would tell her no to do it and if she doesn't stop then who cares? I'm not gonna tell on her.....I'm not a snitch!!
• I would try to stop her from doing it.I would be sad!
• Depends what it was. If I could try and stop it I would try my best to. If I can't help and she's already done it then I would tell her not to do it. I would get my other best friend to help me stop her.
• If it was at school i would tell them to stop and I would tell a teacher. If it was not at school I would tell them and an adult.
• Confront her/him.
• We would tell the other one to confess and tell a teacher if they don't I will be the one who tells the truth to the teacher.
• Say she can't be my friend.

12 September 2011: What would happen to the sea level if all the boats in the world were taken out of it at the same time?

• Nothing because when all the boats were put into the sea nothing happened.
• The sea level would stay the same.
• If you listen to archamedes experience it would go down, otherwise anything
• It would be lower than it was and more emtier.
• It would go lower because when they are in, the water is pushing up so it goes higher.
• I think that the water level would not go lower because the boats do not occupy that much space. It might go, like, 2cm lower.
• The sea level would rise.
• The sea stays the same level.
• I would go down a lot.
• The sea level will rise.

5 September 2011: Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?

• Who wouold want to be unhappy all the time? It's such a big price to pay.
• Genius. It's cool.
• Joyful simpleton. Life is less stressful.
• A joyful simpleton because I would be very unhappy if I was a worried genius.
• When you are a genius like me, you will never be worried. You would accept that good things and bad things happen to us equally and that there is nothing we can do about it but follow your life.
• I would love to be a joyful genius.

29 August 2011: What do we all have in common besides our genes that makes us human?

22 August 2011: Is the sand part of the sea or the land?

• It depends where it is if it's under the sea, it is, if not, it isn't.
• both. sand was rock but is crushed by the sea.
• It's part of the sea and land because you get sea sand and well, sand on the ground.
• The land because of the rock during dinosaurs!
• Part of the land but is joined to the sea.
• Land because sea is salt and water.
• Part of the land cause it forms on land and gets covered by the sea.

• Joy is in Grade 6. She is black with brades.
• Joy looks like friends.
• I am very happy because today is my recorder lesson.

• I am very happy because my best friend has been making me laugh the whole day.

10 August 2011: Is stealing to feed a hungry child wrong?

• Maybe. Depends how you feel about children and stealing and which you would rather protect - a child from starving or a thief.
• Yes. If you steal once, even for a good purpose, it's almost guaranteed you will steal again, possibly for less noble reasons.
• In some ways, because stealing is wrong but if it is for a starving child it is not.
• It depends on how much you steal.
• It's wrong but for a good reason.
• Yes, for it means taking from somebody else.
• Absolutely. Stealing is never okay.
• No it is not because it is only one time you'd be stealing plus the child would not be hungry and you'd do good.
• No because imagine you were a starving child with no money.
• It's a crime but no!

• Im a carrot! Cos I can see in the dark.
• Carrot or banana.

25 July 2011: If you put a chameleon in a room full of mirrors, what colour would it turn?

• It would be whatever colour it pleased. Even a rainbow.
• Mirrish.
• The chameleon will turn invisibell.
• Same colour as the ground.
• The chameleon will turn white.
• It would turn multi-coloured.
• It will stay the same colour because it can see it's reflection.
• It would be the same.
• It will be any colour it wanted to be.
• It is proven that chameleons do not only change colour to match their surroundings but their emotions too.

18 July 2011: If you could teach something, what would it be?

• real sincere tolerance of others.
• I would teach Art.
• We would teach technology.
• I would like to teach drama.

• Draw, draw, draw.
• I would party every day, the whole day.

• Stop littering and stop global warming.
• I would say do no judge people by how they look coz I kinow what it feels like.

6 June 2011: If you tied buttered toast to the back of a cat and dropped it from a height, what would happen?

• You would have a cat with buttered toast on the floor.
• It depends on how tight you tied the string and from what height you dropped the cat.
• The cat would land on 4 legs and if it didn't , the toast would soften its fall
• Which way is the buttered toast?
• The cat would die from really high. But at least you could eat the toast.
• The cat will eat the toast.
• The toast would be all soft and crushed.
• The buttered toast will saport the cat.
• The cat wouold land on its feet because they've got awesome reflexes and it's been proven.
• The cat will die!! And the toast will get dirty.

30 May 2011: If there's a speed of light and a speed of sound, is there a speed of smell?

• Yes especially if you are a predator or scavenger.
• Smell is a scence not an object so NO.
• It depends how strong the smell is.
• Yes, I think so because it's how fast a smell comes to your nostrils.
• Yes because smell comes to you slowly.
• A smell in the air is like water seeping through foam.
• Yebo you can smell ducky poop a mile away.
• yes because you must use your senses?
• Maybe but if there is, it has not been discovered.

23 May 2011: Would you rather not bathe for 1 month and be able to change your clothes, or not change your clothes for 1 month and bath ?

• Total EEEEEEW! A boy does those things.
• I would rather be able to bath. Just try and keep my clothes clean.
• I'd rather bath and then I can clean my clothes in the bath.
• Definitely change clothes but not bath. It's not hard. I've done it before and I didn't smell.
• Neither!
• A month without changing my clothes.
• Depends how often you can bath.
  
• Bathing keeps you clean and I hate the feeling of knowing I'm not clean.
  

 

16 May 2011: If you dug a hole through the middle of the earth, and jumped in, would you stay at the centre because of gravity?

• Yes, because you are still in the middle of the earth.
• If the hole went right through the earth like a tunnel, then I think I would fall. If it wasn't so hot, I might actually be there and it was a hole that ended still in the earth I wouoldn't.
• No. Why would you jump in anyway?
• You would die. Seriously. From the pressure and/or the heat.
• You would stay in the centre because gravity is pulling towards the centre of the earth
• No I wouldn't because earth is too hot.
• No. Too hot. So big.
• I think the gravity from the other side  would spit you out in the opposite direction.
• yes, I don't see why it would only work on the surface of the earth, in fact I think gravity would be stronger closer to the centre.

9 May 2011: If I swapped brains with you, would you still be you and me still be me?

• Are you crazy. Brain transplants are impossible.
• Yes, your brain is who you are , and your body a temporary shell.
• We would still have our old personalities, but we would be physically different.
• there is no way beacuase every detail about you makes you you.
• No, because human characteristics shouldn't define who you are. Your emotions and thoughts and opinions do.
• Yes, beacuase you will just have a different brain but the body is you.
• no. I wouldn't be as smart as I am now.
• No. Even though you look the same you would have a different voice and personality..

3 May 2011: Are the school gates for keeping children in or adults out?

• Well if the gates were higher then they would be able to keep adults out but people can just hop the fence. (I've seen it happen before.)
• i think it's for both, cos what if the adult is a parent?
• I think the gates are for keeping the children in and adults out. only naughty children and rude adults would want to come in and out. Gates are for keeping kids safe.
• For keeping kids in the school till their Moms come.
• To keep children in and strangers out.
• To keep us safe.
• Both. we don't want adults interfering with our work, BUT the children shouldn't be allowed out.

18 April 2011: Can you feel happy and sad at the same time?

• You sort of flash between them when you think about it.
• Yes it is possble to have a bad day and a happy one.
• Yes, I felt happy and sad when my cat died. He died which meant he was gone but he was out of his misery.
• Yes, nostalgia. You're happy that it happened, sad that it's over.
• I have never tride but I think I can.
• Yes you can. Because you can miss your friends when you go on holiday but be happy.
• Yes if you are happy that it's over but sad it happened.
• Yes. We feel happy that our Grade 7's pass, but sad to see them go.
• yes. You can cry when you are happy.
• Yes, you can cry from joy or relief.
• When I'm happy I'm sad others are not as happy.

11 April 2011: Is it ever okay to cheat?

• Depends on the context
• Well if you must then you must like if you are playing a card game. But otherwise don't cheat.
• May-be because a cheetah does not cheat.
• No because you don't learn.
• I think in a certain situation it is OKAY.
• It depends on the situation. If your life or someone elses depends on it, then yes.If it is for your own selfish gain then no.
• So long that it doesn't hurt anybody.
• Yes. There is a card game to cheat and the point is to cheat.
• no because you are only cheating yourself.
• No cause that's not your own answer.
• i think it's not okay to cheat on school work.
• it is sometimes depending on what you are cheating on.
• Maybe if it's a good reason.

28 March Thunk: What colour is Friday?

Responses:

• Friday is yellow because everyone is happy and bright for the school holidays.
• Purple becuase it is the last colour of the rainbow and the last day of the week.
• I think of red or gree and sometimes orange. Most likely red. Red is happy and Friday is happy for me.
• A cool colour because when it's Friday you're cooling down for the weekend.
• Friday is the most best day of the week. Blue.
• Blurple.
• Baby blue because Friday is a calm day.
• Green because I like the colour green and I like Fridays.
• Friday is a rainbow day, full of promise for a lovely weekend.
• Friday is red. This is because when I was in grade two my teacher put up the days of the week and Friday was always red.

22 March Thunk: How should we celebrate Earth Hour?

Responses:

• By lighting candles with friends and family.
• If there were no tree and ear we wood not breeth. and no food and no light.

• Make a "ghostly" tour of the house. Set one up in the afternoon.

• We should turn all light off. Have a braai. cycle every where and have fun.

14 March Thunk: When you comb your hair, is it Art?

• Well, if you study Talia B's hairstyle and chat to her about the "balance" and "symmetry" of her cut - Yes.......it's Art.
• No, because you can't paint on it.

• I think it depends because you might want to style it ut if you're just combing it straight then I think it isn't.
