Maths Evening

By Helen Unwin | 17 May 2012

To stimulate interest in Mathematics and to prove that Maths can be fun, Grove Primary held a Maths fun evening. Learners in grade 4 – 6 and their parents were invited to attend. A hundred and fifty people arrived to have their skills fully tested. Hosted by Mr Steve Cohen of Living Maths, all were soon involved solving Rhebus questions, number crunchers, lateral thinking problems and much more. Fuelled by popcorn and hotdogs, the atmosphere was tense as children pitted themselves against their parents; or families competed against other families. Cheers resounded when answers were given and some lucky children won t-shirts or fizzers. The conclusion inevitably was:  Maths Is Fun!

Campout 2012

By Helen Unwin | 02 Mar 2012

THE GROVE PRIMARY CAMPOUT                                                                                                  1 March

The annual Grove Primary campout took place under superb conditions on the school fields. With a stunning mountain view these fields are the best place in Claremont to pitch a tent! Once the hard work of unpacking and pitching tents was over pupils and parents could cool off in the pool, play air hockey, jump on a jumping castle, surf on a simulator or simply relax and chat. Once it was properly dark the school principal took learners on a scary walk through the school building. To round off the evening a talent show offered learners the opportunity to show off their dancing and singing talents. After breakfast on Sunday morning 175 families made their way wearily home.  This fun event offers parents and children an opportunity to mingle outside school hours and raise funds.
