SPORT
At Grove we hold the firm belief that sport has an important part to play in the physical and social development of all young people. Sport is not just for those with exceptional ability. All pupils have PE/Games as part of the curriculum. However, outside of that time there is plenty of opportunity for pupils to try out new sports and every student must participate in at least one summer code and one winter code.
In summer, grade R - 3 have one lesson of swimming a week. In winter, Grade 2 students have a half hour physical education per week and G1 have half and hour every other week. In addition grades 1-3 have a 45min games afternoon each week in both winter and summer.
All grade 4 to 7 students have one hour lesson of physical education per week.
Extra Mural sport
The following codes are offered during the winter terms Boys Hockey, Girls Hockey, Boys soccer, Girls soccer, Girls Netball, Cross country and Table Tennis. In the summer months we offer the following codes: cricket, tennis, athletics, volleyball and swimming.
In each of the codes listed we play fixtures against other schools, attend festivals and run inter house competitions.
Each student at The Grove must choose one of the sports mentioned and if selected represent the school or house. We encourage students to play a team sport if possible. In each age group we try to enter two teams in each code. Some students choose to play more than one code.
Alongside the school sport, we also have an extensive private extra mural program including judo, tennis, ballet, drama and gymnastics. Students may choose to participate in these activities in addition to their chosen school sport.
